Tea with the Experts – June 2021
The Heart Research Australia Heart Health Club team invite you to join our
Tea with the experts webinar
Friday 11th June, 11:30am (Sydney time)
Why are healthy people with no risk factors having heart attacks?
We’ll be talking with Professor Gemma Figtree about her latest research and the results from her SWEDEHEART study.
Professor Gemma Figtree has recently found through her research that patients who had no traditional cardiovascular risk factors were almost 50 per cent more likely to die 30 days after a heart attack than people with these traditional risk factors. The impact was even worse for women.
Professor Gemma Figtree is a Professor in Medicine at the University of Sydney. She is committed to improving the care for heart attack patients, using her knowledge of redox signalling to develop methods of identifying those at highest risk of adverse outcomes, and discovering novel therapies, inspired by her clinical work as an interventional cardiologist at Royal North Shore Hospital.
Discoveries in her laboratory have been published in many leading journals with more than 100 different publications. Gemma’s contribution to the field is reflected by her position on the Editorial Board of the leading cardiovascular journal Circulation.
Heart Research Australia is so proud to have provided early phase research support to Professor Gemma Figtree. The discoveries she has found from this initial funding inspires us every day. We can not wait to share her incredible research with you.
