Researchers access significant funding, thanks to you

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, our researchers have been successful in securing several large funding grants and fellowships to continue their life-saving research.

As you may know, Heart Research Australia funds first-stage research, supporting researchers to develop their initial ‘out of the notebook’ ideas into reality. As this type of research does not qualify for government funding, we are reliant on the generosity of the community to fund the investigation of ideas that may not otherwise progress to research and into clinical trials.

Your support has helped our researchers to progress their research from a notebook idea to a point where they are now eligible to receive government funding and other significant grants.

Funding includes:

  • Professor Gemma Figtree and her team have received a National Health and Medical Research Council grant worth over $800,000 for their project ‘A new paradigm in redox-mediated cardiac fibrosis’.
  • Associate Professor Ravi Bhindi has been awarded a National Heart Foundation of Australia ‘Future Leader Fellowship’ worth $640,000 over four years.
  • Dr Kaleab Asrress has been awarded a National Heart Foundation of Australia ‘Postdoctoral Fellowship’ worth $120,000 over two years.

On behalf of our researchers, thank you – you’re helping to make today’s ideas become tomorrow’s breakthroughs.
