Professor Tofler has been working on a novel approach to smoking cessation, supported by a grant from Heart Research Australia and SPARK innovation award.
This work uses video to create a simulated teachable moment and builds on the clinical observation that many smokers can stop smoking once they have experienced a heart attack.
The goal of this project, which has been extended to an internet/telehealth version is to use this information to assist people to stop smoking prior to any heart disease.
This project has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Smoking Cessation, and will stimulate a wider implementation, including in the challenging group of smokers with a smoking partner.
