Dr. Jonathan Ciofani is a cardiology registrar and researcher at the Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH). He has a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Imperial College London (2020-2022) and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from The University of Sydney (2016-2019), where he also completed a Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSc) with double majors in Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Immunobiology (2013-2015).
Dr. Ciofani is currently a Cardiology Advanced Trainee at RNSH, Clinical Associate Lecturer at the Sydney Medical School at The University of Sydney, Section Editor for Genomics and Precision Medicine at Heart, Lung and Circulation, and Chair of the CSANZ Fellows in Training Committee.
His research focuses on cardiovascular diseases, particularly coronary artery disease, aortic stenosis, and the impact of COVID-19 on cardiovascular health. His recent work using Mendelian randomisation methodologies has led to several peer-reviewed publications and presentations at both national and international scientific meetings. He has also contributed to basic science research in translational genetics and structural biochemistry.
Dr. Ciofani collaborates with statisticians, epidemiologists, and clinicians from institutions such as The University of Oxford, Imperial College London, The University of Bristol, and The University of Cambridge.
His current project, funded by Heart Research Australia, aims to use genetic data to identify medical therapies for aortic stenosis and other valvular heart diseases. This work seeks to establish an evidence base for medical therapies and potentially inform clinical decision-making in the treatment of these conditions.
