Dr. Hari Sritharan is a Cardiology Advanced Trainee at Royal North Shore Hospital and a full-time PhD candidate at the University of Sydney. His academic background includes a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Bachelor of Medical Studies (BMed), and a Master of Medicine in Clinical Epidemiology.

His research focuses on the clinical translation of machine learning and advanced predictive analytics in cardiovascular disease. Through his research, Dr Sritharan aims to develop, implement, and clinically translate machine learning based risk prediction algorithms across three critical areas in cardiovascular medicine: ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), and COVID-19 related Cardiovascular Outcomes.

Dr. Sritharan’s work is supervised by Professor Ravinay Bhindi and Dr. Usaid Allahwala. His work aims to create more precise, personalised risk prediction models that enable earlier identification of high-risk patients, facilitating potentially timely interventions and customised treatment approaches. The ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between innovative machine learning techniques and practical clinical applications in cardiovascular care. .

Dr Sritharan was awarded the ‘NSW/ACT RACP Trainee Research Award for Excellence’ for his machine-learning research on the AUS-COVID score. He’ll be representing NSW/ACT at the National RACP Trainee Research Awards Symposium in 2025.

He was also awarded the Royal North Shore Hospital Scientific Staff Council’s ‘2024 Outstanding Higher Degree Research Award’.

Dr Sritharan was also a finalist for the prestigious ‘2024 PCRs Got Talent Competition’ held at EuroPCR in Paris, and a finalist for the ‘2024 ANZET Early Career Research Award’ for his machine-learning research relating to STEMI. His work on COVID-related Cardiovascular Outcomes has been further recognised as a ‘2024 CSANZ Clinical Trials Prize Finalist’ and ‘2023 CSANZ Prevention Prize Finalist’.

Congratulations, Hari!
