Eating more sodium than required, causes the body to find a way to get rid of the excess. Research has suggested that by raising the blood pressure, the body may increase the amount of sodium that is processed in the kidneys and excreted in the urine.
Having continually high blood pressure can cause the arteries, which carry the blood around the body, to become stiff and unable to effectively deliver blood to the heart.
For individuals who already have heart disease, continual high salt intakes can be an added burden and increase your risk of having a heart attack.
Please join us in welcoming Chloe into the Heart Research Australia family and we look forward to sharing her wonderful insights to our Heart Health Club members.
