Applications are now being accepted for Heart Research Australia Project Grants and Scholarships for 2024-25.
Heart Research Australia (HROz) provides funding for Grants & Scholarships to foster high quality cardiovascular research by encouraging and supporting a continuum of research from basic to applied science, including laboratory, clinical and public health research, into the understanding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Project Grant(s) of up to $40,000 per annum are available for up to 2 years to researchers based on campus at RNSH. Applicants are encouraged to apply for seed grant funding to develop new research concepts to the point where the research is sufficiently advanced to be eligible to compete for funding from other sources, including NHMRC. PhD students are not eligible to apply for project grants.
Applicants must be undertaking or proposing to undertake a postgraduate degree on the Royal North Shore Hospital campus in 2024. Scholarships may be granted for 2 years. Scholarships will consist of a stipend of $25,000 per annum. In addition, up to $5000 may be granted annually for research consumables, subject to prior approval of expenditure. Applicants are encouraged to contact potential supervisors to prepare their applications well before the application deadline.
Scholarship recipients are strongly encouraged to apply to alternate funding sources if further funding is required to complete their degree. A Scholarship extension will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. Evidence of action taken to secure alternate funding will be required to support any application for extension of funding beyond the initial grant period.
Promoting Heart Research Australia
HROz receives no Government funding. Continuation of funding for Grants and Scholarships is therefore dependent upon donations to HROz. As a condition of funding, successful applicants will be called upon from time to time to assist HROz’s fundraising and promotional activities to support their grant and help attract further funds. These activities may include some or all of the following:
- Being interviewed or sharing information for donor newsletter and appeal stories
- Being videoed for online and offline promotions
- Speaking at donor events – either online or in person (training will be available)
Successful applicants will be required to provide annual updates of their work and achievements to be used in the HROz annual report and donor updates. Successful applicants are expected to respond to HROz staff in a timely manner when contacted.
Grant and scholarship applications will be reviewed by the HROz Research Grants Advisory Committee, and its recommendations will be referred to the HROz Board in early December for funding approval. Candidates will be advised of the outcome shortly thereafter.
