North Shore Heart Research Foundation is proud to be at the front line of cardiac research, supporting the Department of Cardiology at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital and its Kolling Institute of Medical Research.
At the hospital's Kolling Institute, our research team shares expertise with researchers in other disciplines.
The Foundation was created to encourage the hospital's clinicians to explore novel ways of improving treatment and reducing the impact of heart disease.
A leading cardiac centre
Royal North Shore Hospital has one of Australia's major regional heart centres, servicing 1.4 million people in the northern Sydney–Central Coast area.
Royal North Shore is also a major teaching hospital for the University of Sydney. The Department of Cardiology has full-time academic appointments that combine teaching, research and clinical work.
Funding cardiac research and enquiry
The Foundation funds both laboratory-based and clinical cardiac research. Because of the sheer number of patients treated by the Department's staff, ideas about improvements to current practice flow naturally – often leading to questions that can only be adequately answered through research.
Our research support makes it possible for cardiac researchers to take promising treatments from the laboratory to patients.
As well as saving health dollars, this 'bench to bedside' translational approach results in practical benefits for heart patients. Countless lives are saved, and patients and their families enjoy better quality of life.
Our funding also provides unparalleled opportunities for cardiac researchers to:
- share ideas with researchers from other fields
- collaborate with other cardic researchers in Australia and around the world
- use state-of-the-art facilities and equipment
- attract the best candidates for research positions.
