John Gunning has been Chairman of the Foundation's Research Advisory Committee since its inception. He is also Deputy Chairman of the North Shore Heart Research Foundation. Since 1980 he has been Head of the Department of Cardiology at Royal North Shore Hospital.
Currently working as clinical cardiologist at St Leonards, he has held responsible positions with the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, and the National Heart Foundation over many years.
