In 1986, cardiac patient John Marks met with cardiologists at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital, including Dr Gaston Bauer and Professor Stephen Hunyor. All were concerned about the devastating effects of heart disease, not only on patients but also on their families and the community.
The group concluded that more money was needed for the prevention and treatment of heart disease. So they set up the North Shore Heart Research Foundation that year, and began raising money for medical research the next year.
Since then, the Foundation has invested close to $17 million directly into cardiac research. This enables our researchers at Royal North Shore Hospital to achieve life-saving results, and pursue exciting leads.
Their work is only possible because of the generous support of our donors.
